Overview:

Our client is a well-established East Midlands based Training Provider organisation who work across both the Employability and Skills sectors.

They currently have an exciting opportunity for a Progression Officer to support learners to decide and agree the next steps in their career, through agreed learning and training opportunities to starting work. You’ll explain the options available to the people you work with, helping them to make informed choices about their future.

By supporting with information, advice and guidance (IAG) on education, training and work opportunities including Apprenticeships you will monitor and support their next steps by either enrolling them onto their next learning programmes or moving them into work.

By providing each learner with a gateway to progress you will ensure positive outcome data and impact is evidenced.

The role is based from Derby, and will include travel to other sites (Nottingham & Chesterfield) with travel expenses paid.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting learners to source suitable progression routes and assist with a smooth transition into the learners chosen destination
  • Managing a caseload, which is often comprised of a varied client group using short drop-in interviews, an extended interview or a series of face-to-face interviews
  • Building up and maintaining knowledge of information resources on education, training and work in order to signpost clients to the information they need
  • Collecting, updating and producing information on local opportunities or in a particular employment sector that will positively impact those on caseload
  • Referring learners to other agencies, such as government agencies, learning and training providers or specialist organisations
  • Undertaking outreach work, such as visiting community groups to talk about learning and work opportunities for your caseload
  • Planning, coordinating and attending events and jobs fairs to market opportunities to prospective learners
  • Developing and maintaining a network of contacts with other providers of IAG, joining relevant professional associations where appropriate to support progressions
  • Undertaking administrative tasks, such as maintaining client records, conducting audits, recording statistical data and producing management reports

Candidate Profile

  • Hold or willing to successfully complete Level 3 or above Information, Advice & Guidance qualification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish a rapport and work with clients from a range of backgrounds
  • Assertiveness and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Presentation and facilitation skills
  • Listening and questioning skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, but also to work independently, using your initiative
  • Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
  • Excellent IT skills that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
