We are working on behalf of a specialist College based in East London.

They run an Alternate Provision school for 14–16-yearolds (some of whom have previously had negative experiences with formal
education), offering Maths, English and Science, and re-engages learners with Music and Media.

They currently have a full-time vacancy for a Maths Tutor to be based from their site in Walthamstow, East London

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Essential Qualifications:

  • Maths and English GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent (Level 2)
  • Degree/relevant qualification in the subject area
  • L5 teaching qualification preferred – relevant experience will be advantageous

Essential Qualities / Skills:

  • Extremely organised and motivated and able to manage your own workload effectively and flexibly
  • Proven outstanding teaching and communication skills and understanding of Ofsted framework
    with ability to make the subject matter and time in classroom interesting and engaging
  • Solution-focused and able to respond to data trends
  • Assertive and confident in learning environment management
  • Ambitious and committed to meeting targets, setting standards of behaviour and work
  • Empathy towards challenges faced by a demographic of young adults with high free school meals and poverty rate
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in teaching Functional Skills Maths E3-L2, GCSE Mathematics and Core Principles Mathematics (Level 3).

Desirable Qualities / Skills:

  • Experience of working professionally in a relevant creative industry/as an entrepreneur
  • Proven ability to embed mathematical skills and thinking into vocational and industry settings
  • Previous experience and success teaching mathematics to FE students or in a similar educational
    setting
  • Familiarity and success with diverse teaching methods and strategies tailored to the needs of FE
    learners

THE ROLE

  • Plan and deliver exciting lessons supporting learner progression
  • Promote safety, wellbeing and safeguarding (CPOMS)
  • Record attendance and academic notes on Arbor MIS
  • Track learner progression on the allocated Google Sheet/Docs/Classroom
  • Use a range of assessment methods and provide prompt feedback to inspire learners
  • Work towards a stable learner retention and qualification achievement rate
  • Undertake in-house training to remain up-to-date with awarding body expectations and embrace
    external professional development opportunities
  • Regular attendance to mandatory line management and team meetings
  • Contact guardians regarding learner progress in phone calls/emails and through parents evening
  • Find innovative and effective ways to prepare learners for examinations

DETAILS

  • Working 35 hours across 5 days a week for 52 weeks per year
  • 35 days of annual leave plus UK bank holidays
  • Salary Negotiable between £35,000 and £44,000 depending on experience
